# Verify Email

> Check whether one email address can receive mail.

## Use case

Check a specific address you already have, such as an email typed into a signup or booking form, before you rely on it. The request returns the verdict directly, typically in under a second.

<Note>`/verify-email` checks the exact address you send. To discover an address for a person, use [Find Email](/api-reference/endpoint/find-email).</Note>

## Endpoint

```http theme={null}
POST https://api.sixtyfour.ai/verify-email
```

  See the full request/response schema and parameters in the API Reference.
</Card>

## Pricing

See [Credits & Pricing Guide](/guides/credits-and-pricing) for credit costs.

## Errors

For error responses (400, 403, 422, 429, 503, etc.), see [Handling Errors](/api-reference/errors).

Each organization can make 120 requests a minute. Past that, the API returns `429` with a `Retry-After` header.

## Request

| Field | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `email` | string | The address to check. Required. |

## Response

| Field | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `email` | string | The address that was checked. |
| `status` | string | `OK`, `RISKY`, `INVALID`, or `UNKNOWN`. See [Statuses](#statuses). |
| `score` | integer or null | 0 to 100. Higher is more likely to be delivered. |

### Statuses

`OK` and `RISKY` mean the same as in [Find Email](/api-reference/endpoint/find-email). Here `UNKNOWN` always means the check was inconclusive; Find Email can also return `UNKNOWN` as a placeholder for an address you supplied and it did not check. Verify Email returns `INVALID` for an invalid address. Find Email leaves invalid addresses it discovers out, and returns `NOT_FOUND` when it has no address.

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `OK` | The mail server accepted the address. |
| `RISKY` | The address can receive mail but delivery is uncertain. Most often the company's domain accepts every address, so the mailbox itself cannot be confirmed. |
| `INVALID` | The address or its domain does not exist, or the server rejected it. |
| `UNKNOWN` | The mail server did not give a clear answer. |
